Description | Fairly well-built wall of dressed sandstone blocks, abutting both the south face of the Portico Wall and the north end of the later wall Locus 10. It is interpreted as being a narrowing wall, which served to limit access into the cryptoporticus junction through the opening formed by the end of the East Cryptoporticus Wall, the Portico Wall, and the arch that is posited to have spanned between them. That his narrowing wall is not part of the later closing-up of the cryptoporticus junction is attested to by the presence of plaster on the west face of the wall; the wall face would hardly have been plastered only to be buried in fill immediately after its construction. |
