Description |
Locus 8 was opened as a 2x2 meter extension of T-101 (2022) and was only excavated in the northern portion, leaving the southernmost meter of the extension unexcavated due to the presence of a tree. In order to bring the entire area of excavation down to level with the drain pipe in T-101, the locus included a roughly triangular shaped area north of the extension which was located in T-101 (2022) south of where the drainage pipe ended. Locus 8 was composed of the topsoil and humus layer of the southern extension and was located above Locus 9. Locus 8 is a yellow brown silty clay with dense organic materials such as roots and rocks. There were two trees located within the locus, one of which was removed with a chainsaw leaving a large stump in the northwest corner of the locus. A significant number of extremely large roots of approximately 15 cm in diameter were extant throughout the locus as well as larger rocks located in the northwest and southeast corners of the locus. Small to medium sized roots and rocks were present throughout the entirety of the locus. A relatively low amount of artifacts were uncovered and mostly consisted of abraded pieces of terracotta as well as coarseware, impasto, and fine impasto pottery. Very little bone was recovered from this locus totaling two fragments. |
