Year 2022
Description

Locus 40 is a long cut, running NNE to SSW across much of the trench; it is observable from the southernmost meters of the trench, where it runs under EPOC4’s southern foundation wall, up until the bedrock outcropping situated in the northern meters of the trench. Locus 40 cuts into Locus 35 and is infilled by Locus 31, which first was identified in 2019. The cut of Locus 40 is sparsely lined by medium-sized stones (maximum dimension 25 cm). The cut of Locus 40 is nearly linear, although there is a portion where the cut juts out to the west; here, more of Locus 35 is preserved and there is a depression in the center of this preserved portion of Locus 35 that was infilled with charcoal. This depression, measuring approximately 15 cm wide and 10 cm deep, may be the remnants of a posthole, although this is not certain.
