Description | The soil of Locus 10 extends over a portion of the trench that runs in a half trapezoid type shape in the southern area of the trench. The soil of Locus 10 is a dark brown color, though lighter than the locus above, and has a medium-fine texture and less clumpiness than the loci on top[ of it. The roots are not especially plentiful, but are still present, as are some medium and smaller sized rocks. Like other similar loci, terracotta is much less common than other artifacts, particularly bone and pottery. The pieces of terracotta are also in much smaller pieces. There are ample amounts of bone and pottery, particulraly in the initial picks of Locus 10. Slag is also found, and charcoal is frequently present. The overall artifact level drops off as the yellowish soil that is like that of Locus 9 begains to be approached. Bone and terracotta become relatively infrequent compared with earlier areas of the locus. Vitrified terracotta, which was not found very often in previous loci, is found, particularly in the very southern exten Charcoal is also observed in close proximity to the yellow Locus 9 soil, either resting on the surface, or in the area immdiately preceeding such finds. Some goat/sheep bones and teeth (#20130233 and #20130237), worked bone (#20130151), and a spindle whorl (#20130156) were found and cataloged in this locus. |
