A.M.

A pick pass was initiated in the middle of the trench, where the soil still appeared mottled.  While picking, large pieces of terracotta roofing tile were uncovered, and so it was decided to trowel the remaining area, including a group of rocks in the SW part of the trench.  Soil was sorted into buckets.

Upon sorting the soil, it appears that there may be a tile spread toward the center of the trench which extends south, lying on the much darker soil which has already appeared in the rest of the trench on previous days.  It seems that there is a dip in the depth of the mottled soil in the middle of the trench, directly under the possible tile spread.  Furthermore, the dip appears to be fairly steep and abrupt.

While sorting, a piece of pottery with a rim fashioned in a rope coil pattern was uncovered (Find #1).

P.M.

The area around the tile and rocks in the center of the trench continued to be troweled in search of the darker soil.  Once the darker soil was uncovered, the trench was swept in preparation for the closing of Locus 5, which dips to the Sw corner of the trench.  Closing elevations were taken.
