Roots were clipped and the trench was evened out using trowels and hand picks. Baulk walls were also established and defined using hand picks. The soil remains a brown, rocky topsoil full of roots and humus. A significant amount of root rot is appearing in the northeast and southeast corners near to the trees. A denser, darker clay-like soil is also appearing towards the northern half of the trench. There are quite a few small rocks appearing in the north of the trench along the baulk wall. Since a yellowish-brown clay like soil is appearing, locus 2 was declared across the entire trench. Opening photos and elevations were taken.

Datum is 27.97 m AE.

There are also some small rocks appearing in the middle of the northern part of the trench, near the baulk wall.

Pickpasses began along the eastern wall of the trench and moved towards the west. Every one in three buckets will be sifted to look for small pieces of bone missed during sorting. Small rocks are continuing to appear in the northeast corner. Pickpasses continued throughout the afternoon. Roots were clipped and closing elevations were taken.
