DAILY LOG

A.M.

The entire area of the trench was declared locus 5.  The soil is olive brown in color and contains significantly less terracotta than in locus 4.  There are also less stones in the soil except for patches in the center along the north/south axis and the stone concentration in the eastern center of the trench (see p. 53).  Photos were taken and a pick pass was started in the western end of the trench.  Two special finds were made this morning.

Excavation continued in locus 5.  Pick pass started in morning was finished.  Trench was lowered approximately 5 cm.  Today, approximately 4 bowls of terracotta fragments were recovered.  Approximately 3 latte boxes of pottery sherds (mostly impasto) found.  Approximately 3 latte boxes of bone fragments found.  Some small pieces of plaster were also found.  Two special finds were made this afternoon.
