The cut begun yestrday afternoon in meters D-F/78-79 was completed to a depth of ca. 140cm. The soil in the cut was grey-brown in color and contained some small rocks. One cassetta of small pieces of worn tile and one half of a box of worn impasto sherds were discovered. An additional cut was then begun in D-F/78-79 to a depth of ca. 145-150cm. At a depth of ca. 145cm. the soil in meters D/78-79 began to turn to galestra. Woek will be continued this afternoon to the south into meters E-F/78-79 to determine the extent of the galestra stratum.
Excavation was continued to the east into meters J-L/70-71 to determine the eastern boundary of the rocks
concentration in this area. Light picking and sweeping revealed the extension of the rocks as far as the eastern baulk of the trench along meters J-L/71. Clearing of the area around the rocks also suggested that the rocks are not as densely concentrated in meters J-L/70-71 as they are in meters J-L/68-69. Moreover, there are also fewer tile fragments among the rocks in the eastern meters. The soil around the rocks was grey-black in color and contained sporadic concentrations of carbon. One cassetta of worn pieces of tile, including a few burned fragments, and a few pieces of impasto were recovered from among the rocks.

Excavation was continued to the south into meters L-M/70-71 and to the north into meters I/70-71 to further define the boundaries of the rock concentration. Clearing to the south into meters L-M/70-71 revealed that the rocks appear to taper off at a point between meters L and M, although further clearing will be necessary to define the limits of the concentration to the south. The soil in meters L-M/70-71 was grey-black in color and contained many roots. One half of a cassetta of worn tile and a few impasto sherds were discovered in the grey-black soil. Light picking and sweeping to the north in meters I/70-71 has so far revealed no rocks beyond the
northern edge of J/70-71. Instead, the soil in meters I/70-71 was a mottled caste and contained a large amount of disintegrated red and yellow plaster. In addition, this mottled soil also contained a large amount of plaster (one full cassetta) and pottery (one box). Moreover, several of the tile fragments and a few of the pottery sherds were blackened by burn. The current depth of trench meters I/70-71 is ca. 195 cm.
The cut begun this morning in D/78-79 to determine the point of interface between the gray-brown soil and galestra was continued south into meters E-F/78-79. Excavation in meters E/78-79 uncoverd the galestra at a depth of ca. 150 cm. In addition, a
few pieces of worn tile were recovered from the grey-brown soil above the galestra. Excavation further south in meters F/78-79 has not yet uncovered galestra soil. The soil in these meters remained grey-brown in color. One half of a cassetta of worn tile and one half of a box of worn impasto sherds were discovered in meters F/78-79.
