Excavation halted in T 62 and its extension while waiting for T 61 to achieve the level of T 62's Locus 3 , 4 , 5, and 8 . In order to explore the possible continuation of the stone feature in Locus 4 , T 62 extended again to join with T 63's three southern meter . Area cleared of brush, roots, and surface stones. Opening photographs and elevations taken:

NW Corner, A: 27.74m A.E (95E/53S)

NW Corner, B: 27.68m A.E. (96E/53S)

NW Corner, C: 27.78m A.E. (96E/50S)

NE Corner: 27.85m A.E. (98E/52S)

SE Corner: 27.58m A.E. (98E/55S)

SW Corner: 27.57m A.E. (95E/55S)

Locus 9 is a dark brown, heavily organic debris included humus layer. Four stumps are present at the surface, varying in diameter from 20cm-80cm. Small rocks 5-15cm in length present on the surface. The upper extent of Locus 9 is hard packed from foot traffic since the beginning of the season. Pick pass initiated in the northern meter, moving towards the south. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench. Small fragments of worn terra cotta and pottery recovered in small concentrations. In areas in which the pick penetrated more deeply, a new soil type, a medium brown-grey claylike soil, is emerging.

Continued the pick pass, working in the second meter from the north. Soil sorted and cleaned

from the trench. Last meter picked, sorted, and cleaned. Small concentrations of terra cotta found. The new soil type is also present here in patches. Second pick pass initiated at the north, moving southward. Soil heavily included with roots and small rocks 5-15cm in length. Small concentrations of worn terra cotta and pottery recovered. Stumps defined in order to bring soil around them down to the level of the trench. New soil type has been revealed over almost the entire trench--the rest of Locus 9 soil will be removed next work day. Roots clipped.

Daily Totals:

Locus 9:

Terra cotta: 1/3 bowl

Pottery: 1/4 latte (10 fragments)
