After taking opening measurements, we began trimming the balks and taking down Locus 5 . Dr. Tuck suggested that although many of the stones in Locus 5 are floating, we should leave the remaining ones in place until we excavate just to the south of the stone concentration. We then excavated Locus 4 soil in the western portion f the trench with a pick-pass and troweling before lunch and another after lunch.Pottery Count: 76 total sherds. Locus 4 : 69 sherds. 2 undiagnostic orange ware sherds, 2 undiagnostic bucchero sherds, 54 undiagnostic impasto sherds, 1 ridged impasto, 4 impasto rim sherds (incl. ), 1 impasto spout (?) fragment, 1 impasto base fragment (= ), 2 buccheroid rim sherds (= and ), 1 coarse ware rim (= ), and 1 impasto handle fragment (= ). Locus 5 : 7 sherds. 6 undiagnostic impasto, 1 orange ware.
Also found were a lump of bronze (=
) and a large piece of plaster moulding (= ).
