Photos taken.

Finished trimming baulks in the well area, meters N3-5/W15.  Drawing of the trench was made in the area to be excavated and depth measurements taken ( see p. 231 ).

Because the soil is sterile throughout the trench adjacent to the well, it was decided to use picks.  About 20 cm of soil was excavated and then baulks were trimmed.  Sterile soil being excavated in CA42 is designated Locus 21.

In the north area of CA42N, work continued in meters N12-14/W11-13.  Another 5 cm cut was made through the topsoil.  Stumps and rocks were defined, and the

tile and pottery count will be made in the afternoon.

Continued excavating in the CA42 well area.  The final depth reached was approximately 100 cm b.d.

In CA42N, another 5 cm cut was made through the topsoil in meters N10-11/W11-13.  Several large roots and stumps were taken out throughout the trench.

50 tile pieces, one piece of plaster, 10 orangeware and 3 creamware fragments were found today in CA42N.  Material was extremely worn and more concentrated in the southern part of the trench.  The final depth of the trench was ~67 cm b.d. in the south and 87 cm b.d. in the north part for today.
