Daily Log

Wednesday, June 7  Morning

Work continued in grids G-I 5, removing all the earth above the wall and cleaning it down to expose the surface (see BP-MF, bk. I, p.2 ). The finds, particularly pottery (about 30 pieces including 5 tiny fragments of bucchero) and tiles (a handful of tile fragments), were scarce; only bronze was comparatively numerous, with some tiny fragments of bronze sheeting and a thicker fragment (find no.2).

Wednesday, June 7  Afternoon

The majority of R9 grids A through E were excavated, with the wall in E and D 5 uncovered and brushed down. Such an area produced only a few fragments of pottery and tiles. Grid E/F 5 (previously excavated) was recleaned and swept down.
