A.M.
Today began with taking the elevation of the surface at every corner of each meter withing CA42 in order to establish the slope of the ground (see drawing on ). The soil from locus 1 was munselled and was identified as 10YR 4/2, dark grayish brown. The 1-2 cm humus layer consisting mostly of decayed vegetal matter was identified as 5Y2 2.5/2, dark reddish brown. As excavation of locus 1 proceeded, approximately 5 cm of topsoil were removed in meters N4-1, W11-12.
Many small stones measuring 5-10 cm were exposed in N4-5, W11-12 meters. There are two large patches of bedrock situated in meters N3W11, measuring about 20 cm. Another large stone, about 16 cm, is located in N5,W13. There is a significant amount of tree stumps present in N6W12, N3w11, N2-3W13.
Area is meters N5-6,W11-12 was troweled down to 10 cm b.d. the soil is similar to that excavated in previous day, both its color and consistency. However, small irregular patches
of soil identifies as 2.5Y 5/4, light olive brown, were encountered in association with roots, near tree stumps. In the south east section of the trench, encompassing meters N1-4,W14-16 thr ground surface is considerably lower than in the rest of CA42, sloping towards the south west corner of the trench. This area may possibly be a section of a road.
Approximately 40 tile fragments 1-6 cm in diameter were recovered, all showing signs of wear. Also 9 worn pottery fragments,
8 impasto and 1 orangeware, were recovered. The finds consisted of rectangular pieces of iron (probably modern), vitrified material, and piece of impasto, possibly inscribed.
