Today was spent clearing brush in the CA41 and CA42 areas. The grass was trimmed down to the topsoil. Photos were taken during brush clearing procedures, then grid coordinates were established for a new trench, CA42. It is a 6 by 6 meter trench.

(Picchetti were set at one meter intervals along the perimeter of the trench.)

The location of CA42 is immediately west of CA41, when facing north. There is a 2 meter baulk between trenches CA42 and CA41. The south baulk of trench CA42 runs along the master grid's E-W base line.

A datum point was designated in the NW corner of N6W16. all measurements of depth will be taken from the datum point and recorded as such. (b.d.)=(below datum). The arbitrary datum point was set at 100m above ground level.

We began excavating in meters N5-N6,W11-W12, by removing approximately 5cm of topsoil, which will be designated as locus I.

The topsoil consists of a 2cm humus

layer, which was black in color and contained a lot of roots and decayed vegetal matter, and a grayish-brown clay soil.

Our dirt dump is located approximately 5 meters NW of meter N6W16 in CA42.
