Today was spent excavating Locus 1. The southern most meters (N1-3,W11-12) were leveled off to the depth of the northern most ones (N4-6, W11-12). A 10 cm cut was then made in meters N1-6,W13-14.

Soil color and consistency has not changed since the previous day. However, in meters N4-5,W12-13 there was a high concentration of scattered stones ranging in width from 3-7 cm. This lense is most likely created by a slight natural depression in the ground surface. Also, in the SW corner of meter N1W14, a grouping of small, compacted stones, ranging in size form 3-5 cm, was revealed. It is believed to be part of a road.

Approximately 70 pieces of worn tile were found (1-6 cm in size) and 9 pottery frag-

-ments, mostly consisting of coarseware and orangeware.

Measurements for the casetta used to collect the tile frags are as follows:

30 cm X 28 cm X 16 cm
