rain Monday night prevented work in CA 38 on Tuesday 18 June. This AM, the decision to suspend excavations in meters S4-S10, E83-84 was made due to inauspicious soil in S10, E83-84.
A second set of meters was delineated, and designated CA38 as well.
These new meters S12-S13, E79-80 were excavated down to 42-44cm b.d. (as established for previous excavations in CA38) of roughly 10-15cm below surface. initial 2-3cm were largely very dense humus, decomposing leaves from tree located at Northwest corner of S12, E79.
This gave way to a medium-brown soil over most of these 4 meters, but fades toa lighter-brown in E80. In S12, E79 two possibly slag pieces were recovered.* otherwise finds small work terracotta (two of which evidenced some burn) about 2 doz. pieces, and 4 pieces of coarseware pottery.
PM
initiated 5cm cut to approx 45-50cm below datum in meters S13, E79-80. Takes us into uniformly light-brown soil. Very few finds, including several worn terracotta pieces and 4 pieces of courseware.
*upon cleaning - one rejected as aburnt time, the other is still not identified 60-30-91
