Rain has soaked meters M-O/66-71. We cannot dig there for several days. Trench is to be extended to M-O/64-65. Picchetti put in along lines established for M-O/66-71.
1. Baulk wash and backfill cleaned up along southern baulk of M-O/64-65. (The northern baulk of 1988 excavations) 7 pieces of tile retrieved during this cleaning operation.
2. Stones and surface material removed from M-O/64-65.
3. 20 cm Top soil cut initiated in O/64-65. [Depths are measured from picchetto marking SW corner of J/65 using line level. O/63 and M/63 are level with J/65. O/65 is 10 cm lower. M/65 is 5 cm lower.] Cut extended through N/64-65. Soil
is dark brown surface humus with usual assortment of roots and rocks. Part of O/65 is occupied by a large stump. A small stump is found in N/65. Potery is mixed in fabric and shape. Tile is very worn pan and cover.
