AM

A pick pass in the eastern half of the trench opens the day. Soil is hand-sorted over buckets and dumped into a wheelbarrow. A small number of terra cotta fragments were found. Soil is the same mottled grayish blue, yellowish gray brown with black and white inclusions, and is sandy in texture. Another pick pass in the western half of the trench revealed a few fragments of terra cotta and one sherd of pottery.

Another trench-wide pick pass was conducted. In the west, the soil is beginning to appear more brown and claylike. Material finds remain limited to a few fragments of terra cotta and sherds of pottery.

A pick pass was made in the eastern half of the trench. Soil was sorted by hand and appears consistent in color and texture with the soil described above in the eastern half. The number of

stones appears to be steadily decreasing, as well as is the artifact density. Stones that are found are head-sized and seemingly placed throughout the trench, although several now appear in the southern baulk wall and the easternmost meter of the trench. These stones, numbering about five in total, are not near any other stones, nor are there smaller stones revealed in these passes. Pick passes will be conducted lighter in the eastern half and stones in the baulk wall defined while sorting soil.

A pick pass was made throughout the trench. Another pass was conducted in the western half of the trench. Few materials have been unearthed, but of these materials, some terra cotta and pottery have been found. A light pick pass was made in the eastern half of the trench. Only a few fragments of terra cotta were recovered from that pass. Baulk walling was done using a pickaxe and

trowels because the slopes were very harsh and beginning to impede regular pick passes through the trench.

PM

A full pick pass through the trench was made. Extremely little material is being recovered, and more stones are appearing along the baulk walls, especially along the western and southern walls of the trench. As picked soil is sorted in one half of the trench, baulk walls are trimmed and stones defined on the other end of the trench.

A second full pick pass was made. Barely any material is being recovered, other than some terra cotta.

A third full pick pass was conducted. Next to no material was recovered, and terra cotta being brought up was sparse at best.

Baulk wall work was done. Locus 7 was not worked on.
