11 July 2022 AM: The morning began with a pick pass in the northern end of Locus 1. The soil was medium brown, compact, and sunbaked clay. There were inclusions of terra cotta tile, pottery, small stones, and bone. Plaster was also prevalent. There was also sings of burning, including carbon and vitrified terra cotta. SF 14 Locus 1 175.25E/60.03S 26.81m AE vitrified terra cotta SF 15 Locus 1 175.37E/60.66S 26.81m AE plaster with reed impression SF 16 Locus 1 175.38E/60.01S 26.77m AE vitrified terra cotta Because Locus 1 began to slope down to the east, the soil in the higher western half was loosened with a pick pass. The soil and inclusions remained consistent. SF 17 Locus 1 174.60E/62.43S 26.74m AE cover tile in 4 fragments with potential slip SF 18 Locus 1 174.41E/62.86S 26.80m AE plaster with reed impression and a flat side Another pick pass loosened the soil in the southwest corner. The soil and inclusions remained consistent with earlier in the morning. Notable was the copious presence of plaster and two bucchero fragments one of which was a body sherd and the other a rim fragment. The soil was very dry, clumpy, sunbaked clay and medium brown. Inclusions were present of tile, pottery, bone, plaster, and limestones of medium size which were left in place. SF 21 Locus 1 175.95E/63.23S 26.82m AE bronze slag (cast off) Two fragments of bucchero were recovered in sorting the pick pass, including a rim fragment and a lid handle fragment.
