Moderate amounts of bone, 409 in total, were found in T26 in 2023. The majority of the bone recovered in 2023 came from deposits associated with the habitation and destruction of the OC2/Workshop structure.

The greatest quantity of bone was found within Locus 24, a deposit composed of roof collapse from the destruction of OC2/Workshop. Locus 24 contained 91 fragments of bone, or 22.25% of all bone found this season in T26.

The next highest amount of bone was found in Locus 28 in the dark brown highly compacted and clay dense soil in the section under the plaster floor surface of OC2/Workshop. Locus 28 contained 64 fragments of bone, or 15.65%. Notable was the recovery of two diagnostic bones (PC20230031, PC20230032).

Locus 35, a layer that appears equal to and is next to Locus 28, had a similar amount of bone at 62 fragments, or 15.16%. Notable was the recovery of a shell fragment (Special Find #41).

Locus 30 had 50 fragments, or 12.22%. The locus is a large carbon deposit within a highly compacted, medium brown clay wherein the bone fragments were found beneath and around the carbon deposit.

42 bone fragments, or 10.27%, were found in Locus 36, a layer of brown clay under Locus 32 in the section under the plaster floor surface of OC2/Workshop.

A small amount of bone was found in Locus 33 in a deposit composed of roof collapse from the OC2/Workshop structure. 22 bone fragments were recovered, or 5.38% of all bone found, in the collapse layer. Notably an antler fragment (PC20230101) and a possibly antler fragment were found.

All bone recovered in T26 in the 2023 season was animal bone. Most bone appears to be pig or sheep/goat. We await further analysis of faunal remains, which will occur in 2024.
