Although many deposits in T26 contained carbon inclusions, especially the layers excavated under the OC2/Workshop Orientalizing plaster floor (Loci 28; 35), few organic materials were recovered in 2023. Two sections of a carbonized wood (PC20230072, PC20230073) were found oriented running SE to NE and declared Locus 30 . The carbonized wood was removed by lifting it in two sections in a soil packing. The first section (PC20230072) measures 0.65m in length, 0.30m in width, and 0.10m in height. The second section (PC20230073) measures 0.72m in length, 0.35m in width, and 0.12m in height.. A third section of a carbonized wood (Locus 37) was revealed under Locus 24 at a lower elevation than those of Locus 30, but it is a possible continuation of the carbonized wood excavated as Locus 30. Although a sample was taken (Sample #5), the rest of the carbonized wood was left in situ. The sections of carbonized wood are most likely wooden beams that were a part of the roofing structure of OC2/Workshop. The beams most likely collapsed and burned during the destruction of the building and thus are indicative of the burning of OC2/Workshop during its destruction.
A layer was revealed by the removal of Locus 24 that is a dark brown/black soil that appears to contain significant amounts of carbon. The layer was not excavated in 2023, but it may hold more organic samples.
