Locus 3 was established today with the coordinates of 8 west to 11 west / 31 south to 32 south. It is an extension from the main t wrench off of the southern wall, locus 3 was cleared of branches, twigs, and stones, photos were taken and elevations were taken:
NE: 30.21 meters absolute elevation
SE: 30.16 meters absolute elevation
SW: 30.29 meters absolute elevation
NW: 30.28 meters absolute elevation
Center: 30.35 meters absolute elevation
For the time being, locus 3 will be excavated using a pick axe and sorting through the soil with trowels. Locus 3 is the dark brow n topsoil humus layer that is intermixed with terracotta, small stones, twigs, and branches. Locus 3 will only be excavated in the western 1.5 meter.
Locus 4 was established today. It has the coordinates 11 west to 13 west / 29 south to 31 south
And is an extension from the western wall of the main trench. Locus 4 was cleared of excess foliage before photos were taken and elevations were taken.
NE: 30.32 meters absolute elevation
SE: 30.28 meters absolute elevation
SW: 30.43 meters absolute elevation
NW: 30.42 meters absolute elevation
Center: 30.23 meters absolute elevation
Locus 4 is the dark brown top soil humus lay and will be exposed after locus 3 extension.
Trench diagram
The dark brown humus later of locus 3 is decreasing as the soil becomes increasingly yellow/light brown in color, just as in locus 2 . In preparations for closing locus 3 and opening locus 5, roots were clipped, the trench was scraped, and elevations were taken. The opening elevations for locus 5 are:
NE: 30.08 meters absolute elevation
SE: 30.06 meters absolute elevation
SW: 30.08 meters absolute elevation
NW: 30.10 meters absolute elevation
Locus 5 soil is 10yr 6/6 brownish yellow, just as locus 2 soil.
The coordinates of locus 5 are located within the 1.5 meters that was excavated in locus 3 . They are:
8 west to 9.65 west / 31 south to 32 south
While excavating locus 5 , a rounded stone was found (find #1).
Find #1: rounded stone
30.00 meters absolute elevation
8.19 west / 31.70 south
Excavation in locus 5 has been suspended in order to fully explore the rock featured in locus 2 .
In locus 2 , rock defining has continued. The curve shown in the diagram on page 39 has remained consistent while troweling down. Because of this, the trench has been scraped and the baulk walls trimmed in peroration for opening a new locus for the rock feature. This is locus 6 :
NE: 30.01 meters absolute elevation
SE: 29.99 meters absolute elevation
SW: 30.03 meters absolute elevation
NW: 30.08 meters absolute elevation
Center: 29.98 meters absolute elevation
Locus 6 is the rock feature that extends from the eastern wall to the western wall of the trench. Locus 6 will be excavated tomorrow.
