Pithos Summary
Pithos fragments were encountered at a particularly high frequency in T-26 M-O/64-71. Two distinct concentrations of pithos were revealed, one in M-O/65-66 and the second in M-O/68-69, both apparently in lines running roughly N-S.
Associated with these concentrations were tile scatters in M-O/64-66 and M-O/69. These concentrations correlate well with similarly linear concentrations found in T-26 P-R/64-71 in 1988 ( see HDA II p. 99-101 ), although some minor adjustments for grid miscalculations must be made. The possibility of these linear pithos/tile/rock concentrations serving as rough drainage for Upper Building occupation seems quite likely. For discussions of these pithos frag concentrations, see p. 157-167 and p. 219 , p. 227-9 , p. 243 , p. 249 , p. 259 , and p. 269 .
These concentrations started circa 80 cm b.s. and thus parallel nicely the tile line excavated in M-O/66-67 which likewise ran N-S.
Further pithos fragments, though not in a suggestive association, were collected from M-O/69-71. These, along with all the others, were brought down to the magazzino in hopes of finding a profile.
