30 July 2015

The morning began with a pickpass in locus 5 in an attempt to find the extent of the brown clay.  About a bowl of tile and a latte box of pottery were found in the pickpass.  A tile with a possible finger mark ( special find #1) was found close to the in situ tiles along with pottery, tile, and plaster.

The soil continues to be sorted by hand into buckets. Defining of the linear rock feature in the southwest continues.  The soil has become more wet and appears to be becoming a soil and sand mixture as revealed in the next pickpass.  A bucchero rim with a joining ancient break ( special find #3 ) was also found and may be associated with fragments recovered the previous afternoon.

Baulk walls were improved using handpicks and the linear rock feature in the southwest of the trench was defined using trowels.  The bottom of the locus is being scrapped and leveled with trowels.

The tiles under the linear rock feature as well as the tiles against the edge of locus 4 were defined.  Closing photos were taken of Locus 4 and Locus 5 .  Because the level of Locus 5 is now below the floor surface of trench VT7 the loci of VT10 will be closed.
