Daily opening photos taken of baulk trim progress. Work begins in the baulk wall, in an effort to better expose a large stone approximately 40cm below the surface of the circular rock feature. About 10cm of soil will be removed moving further south. Several sherds of pottery are being recovered, as well as one bone fragment.

Baulk Trim
Several small inclusions of carbon has been uncovered, as well as one amorphous bronze fragment. Work continues both west and south at around 40cm below the surface, using hand picks and trowels.

Baulk Trim
As excavation progressed, a fragment of slipped fineware, probably associated with Find 1/19 of 2 July and so not made a special find, was uncovered. The fragment's approximate elevation was recorded as 24.51m A.E. Its east/west, north/south coordinates are close to those of the coil made pottery fragment (Find 3), at 94.47E/54.13S. Three stones that were discovered yesterday have been further defined and exposed. The largest, ~30cm in width, is the furthest north. The next stone to the south has an exposed edge that is ~15cm wide. The third, the most southern, is ~20cm wide. Work continues to move east in an effort to uncover more stones to discern if they are related to the rock feature on the surface. Hand picks and trowels are being used.
Another stone has been discovered, approximately 30cm below the ~30cm stone mentioned earlier. This new stone is ~40cm from the floor of the trench.

Baulk Trim
After the floor of the Baulk Trim indent was brought to the floor of Locus 18 , work shifted to pickaxing Locus 18 in an effort to continue down to see if there is a definitive bottom to the circular rock feature. One pick pass was made. The soil remains flakey and grey-brown, containing much decaying rock. Little material is present, resulting exclusively from being dislodged from the baulk wall, at a higher elevation. An additional four pick passes have been made in Locus 18 . No material has been uncovered. In between pick passes, the baulk walls were trimmed back to allow for more space for activity.
PM
Continued to cut back the section towards the east, very slightly undercutting the baulk wall in order to search for a possible next course of stones approximately 30cm below the last discovered course. A thin, rectilinear stone about 5-7cm in height about 35-40cm below the last revealed course. Because this stone is
nearly at the elevation of Locus 18 's current elevation, pick passing initiated again in . Soil remains a mottled brown, grey, and yellow deteriorating rock with no roots. Soil shoveled into buckets and sorted in the wheelbarrow, but no materials recovered. Because the soil has been material free for so long, the wide, flat end of the pick is now being used instead of the pointed end. The deteriorating rock is much more densely packed in the northern meter and a half, and difficult to pick axe, while the southern meter and a half is more loosely packed and more easily picked. One fragment of terra cotta dislodged from the baulk wall. After the elevation of Locus 18 was dropped about 20cm, work was refocused on the section, trying to drop it to the same elevation as well as the further define the next coursing of rocks. Neither of these goals were accomplished at the end of work but will be picked back up tomorrow.
Daily Totals:
