Work continued on the lowest layer of section B.  After more earth had been removed, a dense layer of stones was encountered.  Among the stones are some pieces of terracotta and a dense grayish soil, perhaps some sort of packing.

AFter section B was cleaned down to the stone packing of what may possibly be a wall, excavation was begun on section A, working east to west.  First a 15 cm strip was begun cutting down vertically from top to bottom.  This method of excavation was adopted in order that, when excavation is ended tomorrow, the trench be left with a clean profile, one that will be able to withstand winter erosion.

3 cassette of tile and pithos fragments dumped.
