A fragment of a small terracotta human head, preserving the chin, the lips, and the lower part of the nose, was found in the east trench at a depth of 1.72 m., .80 m. from the east wall, and .30 m. from the south wall (find #11).
Both sections of the trench were then excavated up to .50 m. to the south, to investigate the edges of last year's trench A2A (see T.G. trenchbook pp.29-56). The upper parts of these were loose soil from the previous year's filling, but about 1.0 m. down unexcavated soil appeared. In the east trench

about .25 m. was also taken down along the west side, for the same purpose.
At this point the stratification of the west wall of the west trench became evident (c.f. T.G Book I, 1966, p.11). The strata are as follows:
Stratum A-down to .45 m. at the north end, .53 m. in the centre, .55 m. at the south end. This stratum consist of brown top-soil.
Stratum B-down to about 1.0 m., the whole length. This stratum consists of grayish-brown soil, with small stones.
Stratum C-down to about 1.50 m., to bedrock. This stratum consists of

thick, yellow soil. All significant finds were made in this stratum, in both parts of the trench.
A large piece of heavy terra cotta was found in the south end of the west trench, at a depth of 1.45 m. in the new cut (see p. 13).
A piece of horse race frieze and cavetto molding was found in the south end of the east trench, at a depth of 1.60 m., in the south-east corner (find # 12). A piece of procession frieze was found at a depth of 1.80 m., 1.20 m. from the east side, and 1.25 m. from the new south end; the piece preserves some of the guilloche and the bottom of the woman following the biya (find # 13).

A section of frieze was found in the east trench at a depth of 1.75 m., just at the east side, and .65 m. from the original south end of the trench; the section was in three pieces, partly broken in excvation (find #15). Underneath this was found an impasto bowl, complete and unbroken except for the bas; this was cleaned and photgraphed in situ (find #16).
