Skull Y
- Continued to clean about the skull.
- It was necessary to consolidate with PVA emulsion (15% in vol.) several delicate spots which were uncovered.
- Note: Head lying on a large stone. 2 small bones lying side by side - ? ulna/radius. Large root.
- Turned over the skull to expose underside (moved only to 90 ) and supported by rocks
- Sifted through dirt by hand for fragments.
- Cut through underside dirt trying to reach opposite skulls. Noted white veins in the earth - chalk? Finding no opposite side to the skull, only some very thin and fragmented (many thin cracks) pieces.
P.M.
Continued scraping the dirt with a sculptor's knife from the now concave "back" of the mound.
It was decided that the gauze method is not feasible. Thus, the skull is to be excavated piece by piece, joining the pieces en route.
- Began defining the edges around sections of bone. First - frontal around orbits. Had to consolidate with PVA emulsion (15% in vol.) two tiny spots - also lower tooth which had been dislodged (left I2).
- Although incomplete and distorted due to collapse, the general impression is that this skull is a small size.
- Photographed by Chris
- Consolidated with PVA emulsion (15% in vol.) - brushed on and let dry.
