Vitrified Terra Cotta Analysis:
A few fragments of vitrified terra cotta, eight in total, were recovered from T 62 during the 2015 excavation season. Locus 16 had the most fragments with five. Additionally, one crucible fragment, 20150029
, preserved signs of being vitrified. The presence of vitrified terra cotta indicates high temperatures and burning of the artifacts. While there are many circumstances under which the terra cotta may have become vitrified, both from natural and human factors, when coupled with the high quantities of slag present in Civitate A twenty meters to the west the fragments from T 62 may lend further credence to the idea that this general area of the site was used as a location for small scale metal production. 20150029
