Morning
Work began by continuing the Red Layer cut in ABC/8. Because three fragments of worked ivory were found in ABC/8 yesterday, a sieve was used to excavated this morning. Bronze and ivory were found immediately. In addition to the 50-60 fragments of bronze sheet and slag which were found, also found were 12 complete bronze tacks (of different sizes and shapes - some flat square heads, some round square heads, etc.); 1 complete nail; several round beads (possibly pin-heads); and a heavy, incised piece which appears to be some sort of handle.
Ivory was very frequent. Most of it is burned, although some is not. All of the fragments are worked -
but they are different sizes and shapes. Some fragments have holes in them and some are incised. Notable is a rectangular fragment which is incised with a gioge design. Triangular and rectangular shapes are most common. They all have flat edges and appear to be inlays (incision is only on one side).
Tile continues to be frequent in the redish soil - but pottery is scarce. Meters ABC/8 were completed. Almost all of the material came from B-8 and C-8.
