AM

C/1-3 was brought down to 30-35 cm below the baulk.  A group of large stones were found in C/3.  These were left in place, although they do not seem to form a wall.

In an effort to create a stepped trench, B/1-3 were taken down to c. 25 cm at the southernmost picetto and c. 5 cm at the northernmost.  Rocks in C/3 continued down int B/3.  Soil in B/3 is becoming a harder, dark yellow soil.  Like yesterday, no finds were recorded.  Badly worn pieces of terracotta came up sporadically.  Roughly half dozen pieces of worn pottery were found, some of which have a pwodery bright yellow-orange biscuit.  A piece of possible iron slag was found in the barrow.

PM

B/1-3 was taken down 10 cm.  The nothern baulk of B is now roughly 20 cm below surface.  One piece of bronze with a blue patina was found in B/2.

C/1-2 was taken down in two cuts totaling 20 cm.  The southern baulk is now c. 55 cm below surface.  Hard yellow soil was encountered here and in B/1-3.

The rocks in B-C/3 were cleaned further and left in place.  Photographs were taken this afternoon.

In all cuts, worn fragments of tile and some pottery were found.  Another possible piece of slag was found as well.  The whole day's tile equalled roughly 1/5 of a cassetta.
