Locus 8

AM

A pick pass was conducted in the Eastern extent of the trench. Soil is noticeably dense, perhaps from the rain on July 15. Soil color remains relatively consistent, with few stones, and high amounts of terracotta and pottery.

A pick pass was conducted in the central extent of the trench. Another pick pass was conducted in the westernmost meters of Locus 8 . Soil is hand-sorted over buckets and dumped into the wheelbarrow.

After a full pick pass was made throughout the trench, the stump in the southeastern corner of the trench was removed with an axe. Baulk walls were trimmed until midday when work stopped for the day. A fragment of vitrified terracotta (Special Find #1) was recovered from the western baulk wall. Locus 7 was not worked in today.
