The stones appear across much of the western extent of the trench, they range in size from small (~5 cm) to large (30 cm). We focused our efforts defining the eastern meter of the trench, using trowels we leveled this section of the trench. The area around the tree was defined. Roots were removed and the baulk cleaned here. The floor of the trench was swept of loose soil in order to better see the layout of the stones being defined. While sweeping a iron tack was found (SF #1).

Locus 2

~26.425 mAE

74.5-74.8 E, 39-39.5S

After cleaning more the stones mostly are concentrated in the northwestern corner of the trench. We will start investigating below this surface of small stones embedded into clay. Since we are focusing only on those meters we will close locus 2 and open locus 3 . While the soil hasn\'t changed dramatically from locus 2 , locus 3 is a concentration in methodology. Closing elevations and opening elevations + photos were taken.

Locus 2 Closing Elevations

NW- 26.60 mAE

NE- 26.63 mAE

SE- 26.255 mAE

SW- 26.35 mAE

Locus 3 Opening Elevations

1- 74E, 41S- 26.355 mAE

2- 76E, 41S- 26.315 mAE

3- 76E, 38S- 26.60 mAE

4- 77E, 38S- 26.63 mAE

5- 77E, 42S- 26.255 mAE

6- 74E, 42S- 26.35 mAE

A pick pass was done in the southern part of the L. The locus is very rocky in this part, stones range from 3-10 cm in length. Most of the locus here is rocks with a few pockets of clay. A piece of modern glass was recovered. Very little terracotta is being found in this part. The eastern meter was picked. Near the tree the soil is clay-like, as we moved south more stones are being encountered. Soil is sorted by hand and dumped into buckets. The floor of the pass was scraped. While cleaning up a finial attachment was recovered (SF #2). Eroded tile recovered.

The rest of the soil was sorted by hand from the morning pick pass. The soil still appears mostly rocky and lots of little stones are being turned up. The southern meter of the trench was picked again. This area is mostly stones embedded in a brownish clay like matrix. There are

pockets of clay. While cleaning up the soil a piece of possibly worked chert was found (SF #3).

Work Chert Fragment

Locus 3

26.30 mAE

74.56 E, 41.44S

The eastern meter was picked. Soil and stones were sorted by hand and dumped. The southern meter of the trench was defined. While defining the large (30+) stone in the south-west corner a bronze disc was uncovered (SF #4).

Special Find #4

Bronze Disc

Locus 3

26.29 mAE

74.24 E, 41.56S

PC 20160007

The southern meter was picked again of the L. The western part of this meter is very rocky. As we moved east in the meter the locus has become more clay-like and easier to pick. There are still stones present in this area. Soil was sorted by hand and dumped. While cleaning a bronze fragment was recovered (fibula pin?) (SF #5)

Special Find #5

Bronze Fragment

Locus 3

26.18 mAE

75.96E, 41.42S

PC 20160003

The eastern meter was picked again. Soil continues to be a brown clay-like soil. Soil was sorted by hand and dumped. The floor of the locus was scraped. The western part (74-75E) of the southern meter has become more stone packed.

Bulk Finds
