Work continued in trench 2E. Stone in the northern section was cleaned, and the central section was excavated with hand tools. Several finds were made.
A terracotta head (from lateral sima) was found at a depth of 0.65m, 2.55m from the south end of the trench, and 0.30m from the west side (Find # 5).
A piece of lateral sima (left side, with rosette and cavetto molding missing) was found at a depth of 0.78m, 0.60m from the west side, and 2.30m from the south end (Find # 6). Both of these pieces were found near the section of lateral sima found on July 8 (2E, # 2; see p. 50).
One knob of a rocchetto was found at a depth of 0.65m, in the west wall of the trench 2.55m from the south end (Find # 7).
A heavy architectural fragment of terracotta was found at a depth

of 0.97m, 1.25m from the west wall, and 2.35m from the south end (Find # 8).
A terracotta "horn" was found at a depth of 0.88m, 2.92m from the south end and 0.57m from the west (Find # 9).
A number of frieze fragments were also found, mostly in the central section of the trench. Some of therse are in very good condition, and represent the banquent, "campstool," and horserace patterns. Several pieces of cavetto molding from frieze and from lateral sima were found, including one with the cat's right ear preserved.
During the morning, three or four fruit boxes of tiles were taken and several larger pieces of pan
tile, with well-preserved edges. Two pieces of heavy, double thick tile were also found.
A large terracotta fragment, with a warrior's greaved leg in relief, was found at a depth of 1.13m, 1.05m from the west side of the trench, and 3.80m from the south end (Find # 10). (See also next page.)
A cat's head water-spout (from lateral sima) was found nearer the northern end of the trench, among the stones at a depth of 1.40m, 2.0m from the west wall, and 3.15m from the north (Find # 11).
A terracotta "horn" (like # 9) was found at a depth of 0.87m, in the west wall of the trench, 3.45m from the south end (Find # 12).

Several more terracotta fragments, like # 10, were found at a depth of about 1.20m, 4.0m from the south end of the trench, and from 1.10m to 0.0m from the west wall. One of these pieces, a shield and helmet of a warrior joins with # 10; others join together to complete a second warrior. Three pieces join to show the hind legs of a horse, and the turning stake of a race course. It is possible that all these pieces are from one whole object, for which find # 10 will be reserved. Numbers 13 and 14 will also be reserved for these pieces.
