a depth of 1.10m, in the west wall of the trench, about 5.0m from the south end. The carbon was taken and saved for possible dating.

one of the warriors to form a fairly large section.

A number of frieze fragments was found, including the right side of a "campstool" frieze in two pieces further broken in excavation, with details well-preserved, and part of a raking sima, with running dog preserved.

In the southern part of the trench, bedrock rose sharply from about 4.0m north to the south end, became galestra in the last 2.0m, as in trench 2C (see p. 44-45).

In the northern part of the trench, gaps appeared among the stones. Those gaps were excavated, and produced several finds (# 3, 11, 16, 18, 19, and 20).

Along the entire west wall of the

trench, at a depth varying from 0.40m to 0.60m, a definite stratum line could be seen, below which small stones, tile, and yellow soil are found. This depth corresponds roughly to the level of the stones in the northern part of the trenchy. It was below this line that most of the finds were made.

The finds in this trench were mostly architectural. Such pottery as was found was quite fragmentary, and included a good deal of heavy storage ware, of which generally only rims and bases were set aside for cleaning. About four or five fruit boxes of tile fragments were removed each day.
