A.M.
Finished taking measurements of stones. Inconveniently, the map of stones is on p. 243 and the coordinates and other information for each stone is on .
Began removing stones and noticed that stones 1, 3, 4, 8, and 9 all extended through the yellowish soil of locus 16 and deeper into grayish clay-like soil. The floor was roughly levelled and locus 16 was created. It covers the entire trench, minus the ring of stones straddling meters 51-52S 160E (locus 17). The soil of locus 16 is yellowish and crumbly with some clay-like pockets, with charcoal and various microinclusions.
A pick pass was taken across locus 156, revealing more large stones at various depths and sizes.
P.M.
Excavated locus 17, removing the incised rim, bone, and a few smaller pieces of pottery, as well as 1 piece of pan tile approx. 15 x 10 x 1 cm. The locus will be closed at the end of the day.
Several of the large stones were removed, which revealed more underneath. They will be left in situ and will most likely be integrated into the next locus.
Cuts were continue across locus 16, except for the small part in m 51S 160E, and the average depth at the end of the day was 185 cm b.d. Locus 17 was closed at 182 cm b.d. and will be integrated into the next locus.
Locus 15 produced approx. 1/16 cassetta of terracotta and 1 latte of various ceramic. Locus 16 yielded approx. 1/16 cassetta of terracotta, including an enormous pan tile fragment, and almost 2 latte boxes of ceramic. Like yesterday, the ceramic is being separated into individual boxes. Locus 17 produced 1 tile fragment and 4 pieces of ceramic. There were 11 special finds.
