Closed loci 16 and 17 and opened locus 18, which covers the entire trench. The soil slightly changes color to a more olive shade, though still basically yellow. However, the texture changes into an extremely crumbly soil with inclusions reminiscent of loci 13 and 15. Also, there are pockets of yellow clay throughout the six square meters and, in cases of very large rocks, pockets of gray, moist clay.
The soil in meters 51-52S 161E is slightly darker with occasional bits of charcoal, though not substantially different enough to be its own locus.
Several cuts were made across the trench, ending the day at an approximate depth of 205-210 cm b.d. The soil is still the same, though pockets of galestra
and of a harder yellow soil have appeared.
The tile recovered was scattered and in relatively good condition. Mostly felanges and the bases of pan tiles were uncovered. About 4 1/2 latte boxes of ceramic were uncovered, including several large bone fragments. There were also 3 pieces of bulk bronze -- all of these were from locus 18. Baulk wall trim yielded approx. 1/4 latte box of pottery. There were six special finds.
