1U Excavation of the third course was completed. At 6.25m N, 1.75m E a terracotta left hand was found, and at 4.00m N, 2.75m E several molded pieces of bucchero.
1W The irregular stones were cleaned and several huge stumps were lifted. Few tiles (3 boxes).
1X The second course was taken off. When the S edge of the wall was cleaned it appeared that it curves towards the E forming a thick wall with a straight N side and the S beginning an apse (?). Indications of postholes were noticed along the S edge. The gap in the wall noticed in 1V p. 55 seemed to form an inset where the wall begins to curve, possibly with a posthole in the wall 1.50m facing E. South of the curving wall a few irregular stones appeared. Few tiles (3 boxes) and several pieces of plaster ( see p. 57 ) appeared along the wall.
1Y A new trench was laid out, E of 1W and parallel to it, . Topsoil was removed from about 1/4 of the trench.
