Two trenches were set up south of VT-1 and were aligned with the baseline set up inside the standing remains using a transit.  VT-2 was situated 1.5m S of the modern fence which encloses the exposed remains and runs three meters along its east west axis and one meter along the north south axis.  VT-3 is situated one meter to the south of VT-2 and is oriented the same way.  A datum point was established on the cement pylon at the southeast corner of the fence.  The actual elevation of the point is unknown, but for the purpose of excavations we will designate it as 0.

Locus 1 was designated over the entire trench and excavation began.  Two meters south of VT-3 a dirt dump was established.  Commenced one pick pass and turned up large amounts of modern material such as glass and plastic.

Continued with excavation.  The humus layer was seen to overlay a reddish orange layer of soil heavily included with small stones.  The initial feeling is that this reddish orange soil was part of the earth moving operation undertaken

in the 1980's for the purpose of building  the tennis courts.  VT-3 has produced less material than VT-2 and it appears locus 1 is thicker in this trench.  The beginnings of a dark layer are visible but there was not enough time to fully expose it.
