STRATEGY: Continue removal of 1221 with the aim of finding a surface corresponding with wall f 85.
SUMMARY: 1. Completed removal of 1221. Came down onto a slightly cleaner and softer soil which was given lot no. 1222 - continued less artifactual material & seemed more likely to relate to a surface (contained burnt material etc). 2. Wall f 85 was largely cleaned to its base. 3. A pise concentration given f 86 was partially exposed abutting wall f 85's south edge, mid-length. Excavation will continue on it tomorrow as it slopes North to South. 4. Excavation surface almost level at end of day, after 3 days of following the slope left by 1996's excavation.
