STRATEGY: 1. Continue removal of 1222 in an effort to expose all of f 86 & a more compact layer we encountered late yesterday. 2. Remove wall f 68 & 78 & clarify their relationship with f 85.
SUMMARY: 1. Completed removal of almost all 1222. F 86 turned out to be a discrete, roughly triangular area of pise measuring c. 45 x 85cm. 2. To the west of f 86 we exposed a compact, relatively level surface (?) - given lot no. 1225. 'Oily' when troweled. 3. East of f 86 we exposed a compact, pise fill (probable was collapse/wash) - given lot no. 1226. Severely disturbed by animal & insect holes etc. 4. Walls f 68 & 78 were removed. Material under f 78 = 1223 & material under f 68 = 1224. 1222, 1223 & 1224 = same loose, brown soil. The compact 1226 slopes up a little under walls f 68 & 78. 5. Wall f 85 ie f 66 clearly shown to extend under f 68.
