A.M.

The trimming of the baulk walls was completed and another pickpass was begun, starting in the northern meters.  The soil in the northern half of the trench is yellow and sandy; the southwestern quarter is gray and sandy, and meters S55/E167 and S55/E168 appear almost mottled with charcoal and decomposing terracotta, although this may be discoloration due to excessive roots in the area.

Material is still considerably less than it was in earlier passes.  The terracotta that is being pulled up, however, is considerably larger and possesses sharper breaks, but there is still no evidence of any sort of surface.

Another pickpass was begun, originating in the north and moving south.  Sorting into the wheelbarrow turned up a small piece of burned bone and a possible sherd of a gorgon antefix (Find 1).

The dirt remains consistent with the

pass from this morning.  Yellow soil persists throughout meters S52-3/E166-169 and is moving through meters S54-55/E168-169.  The soil near the center of the southern baulkwall still appears slightly mottled, and the southerwester corner is still slightly sandy and gray.

A second pass was begun but not completed.  Closing elevations were taken.
