A light pick pass was done in the southern half of the locus to remove the last few high points of clayey-crumbly loose soil of locus 1 . Starting in the northern part of the locus, the floor was scraped, swept and roots clipped. The soil from the southern half was shoveled into buckets and sorted at the wheelbarrow. Some small pieces of pottery and terracotta (1-5 cm) were found. The darker denser soil was finally revealed across the entirety of the locus. The trench will be cleaned for photos. Locus 2 extends across the whole of the trench, it is a dark clay-like soil with leaves and branches across the surface. The locus slopes from north to south in the trench. In the northwestern corner is a large concentration of stones ~30 cm in length occupying an area of 70x70 cm. Another large stone (70 in length) is along the western baulk walls between 40-41S.

A pick pass was done in the northern meter of the new locus. Soil was sorted by hand into buckets. The soil is dark grey-brown with lots of roots, crumbly and drier than before. Several rocks were hit (~15-20 cm). While sorting a fibula bow fragment was found (SF #1).

The next meter south in the trench was picked. Rocks and roots are present here in great numbers making picking difficult. The soil continues to be a dark-grey crumbly clay soil. The rocks were roughly 15-25 cm in length. But they are scattered through the meter. Tile and pottery fragments are being recovered. While sorting a tack head fragement was found (SF #2).

Another pick pass was done moving south, more roots and rocks were uncovered. The soil continues to be the same soil, grey-brown and compacted clay that crumbles when picked. Some of the mounds left from picking in the northern two meters were leveled. Some modern plastic was found among the roots

near the tree. The eastern baulk was trimmed back.

The northern meter was picked of the trench. More rocks are starting to appear in this meter. Tile continues to be found, like before it is heavily eroded and pitted. While cleaning the soil a ridged rim fragment was found (SF #3).

While scraping the loose soil some root rot was found. There are more small rocks being recovered (5-8 cm). Some of the larger stones are being recovered. Another pick pass was done through the middle two meters. More rocks (large and small) were being hit with the pick pass. Soil was sorted into buckets and dumped. Worn tile and pottery is being recovered, most of them are very small. The southern-most meter of the trench was picked. More stones encountered. The stones mostly are appearing in the western meter of the trench. They are embedded in a gray clay like soil but as of yet

have no shape or form to them. They will be further defined tomorrow. The eastern meter of the trench was picked since this part of the trench is still mostly roots and soil. Some rocks were uncovered, along with worn tiles, small pieces of pottery are being recovered.
