June 21 Thursday
Trees having been cleared, a cut 2 meters wide was begun in grids A, B/1-10. Stumps and topsoil wire removed revealing a fall of large stones in grids A, B-2, 3, 4, 5. In order to facilitate the removal of several large stumps approx. 15 large stones were cleared from the fall.
Clearing of the topsoil continued in grids A, B, C/6-10 in the afternoon. The summit of the agger his between grids 5 and 6. Grids 6 through 15 will be refered to as the west flank of the agger.
As expected, tile and pottery fragmetns are light in the topsoil layer which rests directly over the stones fall. Notable is a painted sherd- possibly an imported fabric.
