A series of 10cm cuts were taken in meters D-E/78-79, extending the depth of the trench in these meters to ca. 80cm. The soil in this area was grey brown in color and contained many roots ans some rocks. One cassetta of tile, consisting mostly of small worn fragments and three quarters of a box of impasto and coarseware sherds were dsicovered.
Work also continued in clearing the rock concentration in meters D-E/73-74. A series of cuts were first taken in the southern half of meters E/73-74 in order to bring this area down to the same depth as the northern
half of these meters -- ca. 105-110cm. An additional cut was then taken in D-E/73-74, bringing the entire area down to a uniform depth of ca. 120cm. Excavation of this area was again rendered difficult by the heavy packing of rocks in these meters. The soil around the rocks was grey brown in color. One half a cassetta of small pieces of worn tile and one quarter of a box of worn impasto sherds were recovered from among the rocks.
P.M.
Work began in meters D-E/78-79 but was stopped due to rain.
