Trowels and hand picks used to further define the stones emerging in Locus 6 and dropping the surrounding soil to the elevation of Locus 3 in the main trench. Soil removed remains consistent with Locus 6 , but is a bit damp due to rain overnight. Small concentrations of terra cotta and pottery recovered. Several small roots and a few small stones (2-5cm) removed from above the stone feature. A possible bronze slag fragment found.

Definition of the stone feature and lowering of the soil around it continued using trowels and hand picks. As it has been currently revealed, the feature extends towards both the northwestern and southwestern corners as well as eastward towards the trees with soil margin that have been left in the main trench. Soil removed has been consistent with Locus 6 . Several roots and small stones (2-5cm) unassociated with the feature removed. Small concentrations of terra cotta and pottery recovered. Another small fragment of bronze found, collected in bulk.

As the stones have been defined towards the southwestern corner, they appear to terminate about 60cm up the western baulk wall from the southern baulk wall. From that point the stones slant toward the northeast at a very gradual angle, stopping about 2m from the western baulk wall. The extent to the northwest has not been fully ascertained, but as currently revealed extends along the western baulk wall stopping one meter short of the northwest corner. As currently revealed the stones are down to about 60cm west of the eastern baulk wall of the extension. One more fragment of bronze found, collected in bulk. Work ended by threat of rain.

Daily Totals:

Locus 6:

Terra cotta: 1/6 bowl

Pottery: 1/10 latte (26 fragments)

Slag: 9 fragments

Bronze: 3 fragments
