Because the previously excavated areas of the trench in meters U-V/53-55 remained wet due to excessive rain, the trench was extended west into meters U-V/51-52 in order to make a topsoil cut.

Since the topsoil had already been removed in V/52, a 15 cm topsoil cut was first taken in meters U/51-52 in order to establish a uniform ground level. A second 15 cm cut was then taken in meters U-V/51-52 to a depth of 30 cm. The soil in the cut was dark brown in color

and contained many rocks and small roots. One quarter cassetta of worn tile and a few pieces of impasto pottery were recovered.
