13 July 2022 AM: In the morning it was determined that the stone outcropping in the north of Locus 1 which emerged yesterday was a shelf of bedrock. Consequently, the scraping of soil in Locus 1 on either side of the outcropping commenced with hand picks and trowels to determine its extent. In the southern end of Locus 1 scraping with hand picks and trowels continued to the north and west down from the emerging compact plaster layer in the southeast corner of the trench. The soil of Locus 1 continued to be medium brown, compact, and clay like. There were frequent inclusions of tile, plaster, and pottery. Present in much fewer quantities were inclusions of bone, vitrified terra cotta (mainly in the south end of the locus), and fragments of plaster with reed impressions. In the southern half of the locus tree roots were also present with some frequency and clipped as they were revealed through scraping.
