Continued excavatin horizontally locus 11 feature and surrounding locus 9 soil. Drawings were made. Locus 11 soil is still olive brown [ 2.5 Y, 4/3] although in the middle of the feature in N 3-4, W 2 it is almost dark grayish brown due to heavy carbon concentration [ 2.5 Y, 4/2].

Locus 9 soil is pale olive [ 5 Y, 6/3] Amount of material recovered and size of pottery fragments are smaller than those of yesterday.

Fragments of coarseware base uncovered yesterday in N 4 W 2 were excavated. A piece of sea shell was found underneath the base. Also fragments

of two moulded vessel rims were found. Other material recoved this morning included 22 bone fragments ( 1 tooth); 5 bucchero, 15 red ware, 5 coarseware and 64 impasto fragments, as well as 5 extremely worn tile fragments (1-3 cm), 1/2 latte box total.

Another horizontal cut was made through loci 11 and 9. Locus 11 soil was still olive brown. The concentration of carbon reduced in most of the area except for the 50 x 40 cm patch in northern third of N 3 W 2 where concentration of carbon was extremely high. The soil in this area was mottled, olive brown with heavycarbon inclusions some of which preserved the texture of burned wood, as well as yellow and red inclusions. It was decided that this carbon rich area will be further on

designated as a separatelocus, locus 13.

Material uncovered included 5 large bone fragments, 2 antler fragments; 8 red ware, 27 impasto, 2 coarseware fragments, and 2 pieces of pithos, and 8 unidentifiable terracotta fragments; 2/3 of latte box total. Also, bone with butcher's marks and piece of chert were found.
