Continued troweling down through Locus 7 .  It appears that we are now coming upon a new soil which may be the same as that associated with locus 6 .  We will level the trench and attempt to connect the soils.  After the complete removal of Locus 7 it appears that we have uncovered an entirely new soil which is still mottled but contains less material than the tile spread above it.  We will now see if this layer continues across the entire trench.  We began a pick pass through Locus 6 .  IT seems that we are coming across the same soil found under Locus 7 .  There are a few large rocks in the trench and what appears to be a complete pan tile in the south and east baulk walls.

Beginning work on the baulk walls so that we might understand the relationship between the soil underneath the area of Locus 6 and the soil underneath locus 7 . It is now clear that the same soil has been

uncovered throughout the entire trench and now the soil will be declared locus 8 . Locus 8 is characterized by a darker mottled soil.  It is claylike and has many small rocks.  There does not appear to be a lot of material in the soil. The munsell designation is 10 YR 4/3 Brown.
